The film is about a young couple, played by Jimmy Shergill and Shahid Kapoor. The story of the film is of how they share their love, solve their differences and then finally break up because of some misunderstanding which starts bothering them slowly. The movie was not so successful at box office but it has still managed to create its space in the Bollywood industry with good music, good dancing skills and catchy dialogues. The movie also won National Award for best song. After "Kasoor" (2001), Jimmy Shergill was not getting any good offers. So, he thought of buying the rights of a sequel of successful Hindi film, "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". When Jimmy approached Farah Khan about this, she hesitated but later agreed to direct the movie. The movie was titled "Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai" starring Jimmy Shergill and Shahid Kapoor. The movie opened to mixed reviews from critics with some praising the picturisation and some talking about how it loses its premise in the second half. The songs and music were widely acclaimed and were well appreciated by the audience. The film won National Award for the song, "Mujhko Pehchana". It was also nominated in various categories for various award shows which included Zee Cine Awards where it was nominated for Best Actor Male (Jimmy Shergill), Best Singer Male (Anu Malik), Best Lyricist (Suleiman Quadri), Best Movie, Best Lyrics ("What Will I Do") and more. Rajesh Roshan received several compliments from industry stalwarts for his music. The music of the film was broadcast on Saavn after 10 years, which was on 3 August 2017. The film was in news for its failure at box office. The film was dubbed and released in Telugu as "Baapamula Jaya Baapamula Pilla" (2014).
